PASER Privacy Policy

PASER is a fitness game: you run in the real world, and the distance you cover converts into territory you can claim on a map, alone or with a run club. This policy explains what data PASER collects, why, and your choices.
Who we are
PASER ("we", "us") is operated by the PASER team. Questions about this policy or your data: jonfong78@gmail.com.
Information we collect
- Account: the username you choose and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
- Location & routes: your GPS route while a run is active — including in the background so recording continues when your screen is off. Location is only collected during an active run you started, never in the background otherwise.
- Fitness data: distance, duration, pace, and step count (from your device's motion sensor). Steps and motion flags are used to confirm runs are on foot and to detect vehicles or spoofed GPS.
- Game & social content: the territories you claim, your character/avatar choices, club membership, comments, club chat messages, and kudos.
- Notifications: a push notification token, if you enable notifications.
- Optional Apple Health: if you turn on Health sync, PASER writes your finished runs to Apple Health. PASER does not read any health data from your device.
- Diagnostics: anonymous crash reports, if enabled, to help us fix bugs.
How we use it
- To run the game — record your route, convert distance to territory, and show the map, leaderboards, and your club.
- To keep play fair — detect mock-location, transport, and implausible runs.
- To power social features — feeds, comments, club chat, and kudos.
- To send you notifications you have opted into.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
- We do not track your location when you are not on an active run.
Service providers
We share the minimum data needed with vendors that operate the app on our behalf:
- Mapbox — renders the map; receives the map viewport/approximate location needed to draw tiles.
- Render — hosts our backend and database.
- Expo — delivers app updates and push notifications.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (You → Delete account), which removes your profile, runs, territories, and social content. You can also revoke location, motion, or notification permissions in your device Settings at any time.
Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as salted hashes.
Children
PASER is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
